I learned more grammar from this app than any other source and its free! Its not easy but if you try hard and have a bit of existing knowledge it will really help. I highly recommend it.

This app does a great job at teaching Japanese, and to make it better, its FREE. Its perfect.

This app is wonderfully organized and teaches in an easy to understand way. It walks you through the basic rules of the Japanese language with charts that you can refer back to if you forget how to conjugate a verb or its tense. If you forget what a kanji means you can click on it and it will tell you exactly what it means with the hiragana pronunciation. It even includes a practice session at the end of each lesson to reinforce what was taught along with new kanji to expand you vocabulary. ありがとございますたえきむーさん！

iPad Mini with Retina Display user here. Sometimes this gets stuck in portrait mode even when my iPad is laying on its side in landscape position. Other than that, this app is fantastic. Amazing resource for Japanese learning and review. Thank you!

Its a fantastic app to learn Japanese with audio and video add ons, free of charge as far as Ive seen. Starting with the basics is way better than trying to learn a bunch of foreigner catchphrases and never understanding what youre trying to say. Thanks, Tae Kim, you cracked the code for me, good sir.

I am sincerely impressed with this app. The teaching is great and the critical information one needs to know before learning this language is in the introduction. Great place to start. The videos are also quick and easy to get to. Lots of good lessons to get you well off with Japanese. 10/10

Um, all this app does is cause my landscape screen to flip to portrait, then back to landscape without actually loading. Dont waste your money.

Ive learned a lot from this app! Its definitely the most concise and well organized language guide Ive ever used. My only complaint is that since iOS 8 came out a few glitches has cropped up in the exercises and a few lessons. Any chance for an update to the app soon? Id gladly pay for completely updated version!

I like this more than Rosetta Stone. I know that this is a huge statement, but I speak a few languages, and I have considerable experience when it comes to finding the correct technique per each individual language. I speak a few different languages, and this teacher is quite intelligent in the teaching technique. I absolutely love this app. Does Tae Kim have any books published? I would love to buy them all. I like that there is a recommendation made in the description on what supporting apps we should use. I will most definitely utilize those app. Downloading this app will insure my success. Great app! It does everything its supposed to and its free. Only gripe is I need to be able to enlarge the font more than the app allows in the options. Some of the more complex kanji are blurry blobs, even at the max font size.

Finally, a Japanese app that teaches the language the RIGHT way... I worked for a Japanese company in the U.S. on localization, which is the unknown second step in translating. Eastern thinking is fundamentally different, for example, in the West were noun-centered and in the East theyre verb-centered. In the West, we say "More tea?" But in the East, thats wrong: its, "Drink more?" with "tea" understood in the context. This is currently the ONLY FREE app that teaches correctly!

I am only currently on lesson 3 but I really feel guided and as if I have an acceptable understanding of the true language because of Taes teaching skills.

If you are looking to actually understand Japanese and not just how to say "hello" or "cat" and "dog" then grab this mobile textbook right away. Im still going through the lessons but I learn so much about grammar and sentence structure that I understand simple paragraphs quicker than when I was reading other books. Its easy to google vocabulary so if you looking for lessons that will actually teach you how Japanese people think when they write/speak(because not a direct translate to English like Spanish and Italian) then download this NOW!

First of all, no problems with running the app. Very organized and well-structured. However, this is not for beginners of Japanese. The verb conjugations become very confusing and are only for speaking informally. Beginners or people who dont already know the grammar concepts should just stick to 〜ます、〜です、and its past tense conjugations. Its versatile and much easier for learning. Otherwise, the app is very good.

This app is a great grammar guide, and teaches you all the rules of speech. I like grammar, no Im not a teacher. Japanese grammar is awesome, and so is the way he teaches it to you. I highly recommend this app if you want to learn Japanese, and please give it a high rating too, it certainly deserves it.

Ive been studying Japanese for six years now and never have I learned more about the language than from reading this! It forces you to learn kana, giving you a huge leg-up in your reading skills, it teaches you about not only grammar, but how the Japanese think, and thus why the language is how it is, and it does it simply, plainly, and succinctly! There really is nothing better!
